STAR TREK CAPTAIN JEAN-LUC PICARDCaptian Jean-Luc Picard is a character from the series Star Trek.
He is many Star Trek fans favorite Captain because of his combination of class, wisdom and wit.
This particular statement was spoken to the Android Data who was failing in his attempts to be more human.
Tim has found this encapsulated his early trading experiences to a tee.
Early in Tim's attempts to be a profitable trader he traded index futures.
He had his strategy and was paper trading. He would get four or five winning trades in a row.
He felt he knew what he was doing and felt he was ready to try real money.
So the next trade setup he took on his real money account and lost, so he returned to paper trading.
This cycle repeated itself several times.
Losers are part of the statistical game in trading.
If he stuck to the real money account those paper winning trades would have been real money winners.
These winners would have easily offset the losers.
The whole time he felt he was making mistakes. If he did it right it should have been a winner.
Understand this, you can get all the rules right and still lose a trade.
That's ok, that's life. That's trading.
Trading is never a sure thing, it's always about statistic and probability.
Just because you had a loser doesn't mean tht you did something wrong.
Just because you had a winner doesn't mean you did everything right either.
The important thing is to follow your strategy rules, your trade management rules, your risk management rules.
If you followed all your rules then you did it right, winner or loser.

Things you can say to yourself while you are trading or doing life to make sure you always do the right thing.

CADJPY 1D MA-X STRATEGY CONTINUATION LONG Tim's MA-X Strategy.
This is a Moing Average Cross or MA-X strategy setup.
MA-X strategy consists of the 100 period simple moving average (SMA) in red,
and the 20 period exponential moving average in blue.
If the 20 ema is above the 100 sma then we only take buys or longs.
If the 20 ema is below the 100 sma the we only take selss or shorts.
*In this case price is above the 100 sma so we will only take buys or longs.
*This Pair has been in a nice uptrend foe some time.
*It's now pulled back below the 20 ema and consolidating below the 20.
*We are going to look for a close above the 20 ema to go long.
*This trade plan we buy a daily candle close above the 20 ema.
On the breaking candle to enter a full-sized position we want to the volume bar reach up to the volume average.
If it doesn't reach the average but does reach 75% of the average open a ½ size position to reduce risk.
You can calculate the percentage by dividing the first volume average by the second volume average.
You should at least get 75%, if you don't then stand aside on the trade.
The stop loss will be 1.5 x ATR.
The first target will be 1 x ATR.
So the way that works is you get your candle close above the 20 ema that's your entry point.
At that time you look at the ATR of that candle.
You multiply that by 1.5 to get your SL.
You measure that distance behind the entry and that will be your SL.
Then you measure 1 ATR above the entry and that will be your first target.
If after entering the trade the candle closes back below the 20 ema, tke the loss right then.
Do not wait for price to hit the SL.
Our intention is that a breakout above the 20 ema should be explosive and hit our target fairly quickly.
If the momentum goes away we want to shut the trade down without taking a full stop if possible.
When price hits our first target, close half the position for profit and set the SL to break even on the remainder.
Follow stops as price moves in our direction until the market takes us out.
These two rules are the very definition of cuttoing your losses and letting your winners run.
Typically does this by using two positions.
The first position has a stop loss and a take profit.
That position will close automatically when the first target is hit.
The second position will only have a stop loss and not take profit.
This is the position that will be allowed to run.
When the first target is hit we have to manually move our stop up to break even on the second position.
Risk only two percent of your trading account of each trade.
Each position will then only be 1%.
BTCUSD RANGE BAR STRATEGYBest Range Trading Strategy
In this section, you’ll learn a simple range trading strategy.
Range bars can help us identify support and resistance levels with the precision of a surgeon.
That explains why this is the best range trading strategy.
Once we have identified the support and resistance level, we let the market do his thing
Note* For the purpose of this range bar strategy we’re using a range bar size of 10.00. This means each bar is printed once we traveled at least 10.00 in one or the other direction.
Once the support level is tagged by the range bar we wait for price formation that includes 3 countertrend bars.
You just need to open a new position when the fourth bar is printed on the chart.
The three consecutive countertrend bars simply show range expansion trading.
This is a clear shift in the trend direction.
The protective stop-loss order can safely be placed above the 3 range bar pattern. Stop losses are one of the most effective ways for traders to control their exposure to risk.
Let’s now learn how to trade range bars using indicators.
We’re only going to use the MFI indicator.
For more info on how to use the Money Flow Index check TSG blog: Money Flow Index – Trading like the Banks.
Through this range bar trading strategy we’re going to use the MFI indicator to confirm the buying and selling pressures behind the range bar expansion.
For example, when the range bar expands on the upside, we want to make sure this is due to buying activity.
We’re just using the MFI indicator as a confirmation tool.
If you’re tired finding success with the traditional candlestick price chart you’ll find some value in doing some research and backtesting the range bar tool. If you’re looking for a more all-inclusive range trading strategy with an effective tool to time your entries and exit points you’re way better off using the Bar Range indicator on your current trading platform.
With the best range trading strategy, you have the ability to see the market structure a little bit more clearly. If the market doesn’t move, there are no trading opportunities. If there are no trade opportunities, then we can’t make money. The range bar tool helps us identify when a trading opportunity shows up.

Bullish Flag Ranges are repeatable trading chart patterns.
Bullish Flag Range chart patterns will have a long directional bias depending on the previous incoming trend.

Add volume indicator - Volume is the amount of $ that went into a particular candle or in Forex the # of trades that took place.
Add ATR indicator - Volatility is the amount of price movement that occurred. Use the ATR to measure the price movement.
When you see descending Volume bars and descending ATR line (which indicates volatility ) this shows a dis-interest in traders to invest in this pair creating consolidation which creates the chart pattern.
Trade Management after there is a breakout candle close.
1 - Position size (compare volume bar to volume ma line).
a - Breakout candle must be 100% of average volume for a full position size.

USDMXN - HOW TO TRADE WEEKLY SIGNALS WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANKThe weekly trade signals are very powerful to trade but the weekly stop losses are so large it makes you trade very small size positions.
It takes a long time for a weekly entry to hit it's first target.
This technique takes that built up explosive energy in a huge weekly pattern.
But to trade a size that will make it worth while and to get in and out of the trade more quickly.
The weekly chart shows the week of Dec. 9th is the candle that triggered the trade.
It closed on Dec 13th at an ATR of .3457.
This pair moves a hugh amount of pips every day.
Weekly ATR = .3457
Weekly candle close entry @ 19.00
Weekly SL is 1.5 x ATR (.3457) = .5186 pip SL or SL @ 19.5156

Use Weekly Chart Pattern Trade set.
But use 1st Day Candle Breakout Close for Trade Management data.
No reason to use full week numbers on a weekly trade signal.
This applies to all markets that you trade.
We often see big patterns on indexes and metals where you can use this technique to shorten your trades.
This also allows you to use a bigger size.
Much better to see your TP hit in a day or two.

XRPUSD 1H BEST %R MOMENTUM STRATEGYStep #1: Define the Trend. An Downtrend is defined by a Series of LH Followed by a Series of LL.
The definition of an downtrend is pretty much standard. In an downtrend, we look for a series of lower highs followed by a series of lower lows. Two LH followed by at least another two LL is enough to define an downtrend.
A lower high is simply a swing low point that is lower than the previous swing high. While a lower low is simply a swing low that is lower than the previous swing low.
All momentum traders know that the trend is our friend. But without momentum behind the trend, we might actually not have any trend.
For active traders, we also look at the actual price action in order to gauge momentum. Besides reading the best momentum indicator.
Step #2: In an Downtrend Look for Bold Candlesticks that Close Near the Lower End of the Candlestick .
A technical analysis concept is that you want to use multiple confirmation signs when buying and selling. This will increase the likelihood that’s a high probability trading setup.
In this regard, the momentum trading strategy besides using the best momentum indicator, also incorporates the price action.
A practical way to read momentum from a price chart is to simply look at the candlestick length. What we want to see in an downtrend is big, bold bearish candlesticks that close near the lower end of the candlestick.
Now, it’s time to focus on the Williams %R. This is the best momentum indicator. Which brings us to the next step of our momentum indicator strategy.
Step #3: Wait for the best Momentum Indicator to get overbought (above -20). Then rallies below the -50 level before Selling .
We’re going to use Williams %R, the best momentum indicator in a smart way. In an downtrend, we sell after the best momentum indicator has reached overbought conditions (above -20). And then rallied back below the -50 level.
Now, we have confirmation from both the price and the best momentum indicator. The real momentum is behind this trend and the probabilities are in favor of more downside prices from here on.
Note* If the best momentum indicator continually stays in oversold territory (below -80 level), it signals a strong momentum and conversely a strong trend. Inversely the same is true in a uptrend.
The next important thing we need to establish is where to place our protective stop loss.
Step #4: Place Your Protective Stop Loss above the Recent Lower Low.
We want to hide our protective stop loss. It is above the most recent lower low level that formed right before the best momentum trading strategy issue the sell signal.
Alternatively, you can also trail your stop loss above each most recent lower low. This strategy will allow you to lock-in the potential profits in case of a sudden market reversal.
Last but not least the momentum indicator strategy also needs a place where we need to take profits, which brings us to the last step of the best momentum trading strategy.
Step #5: You pick your own TP strategy or
Take Profit once we break above the Previous Lower Low
A trend in motion can stay in that state longer than anyone can anticipate. And since we want to maximize our potential profits we let the market tips it hands before liquidating our trades. In this regard, we look for a break in the trend structure. Respectively a break above the most recent lower low.
Alternatively, you can take profit once the best momentum indicator breaks above the -50 level.
Note** The above was an example of a SELL trade using the Best Momentum Trading Strategy. Use the same rules for a BUY trade.

ETHUSD 4H EMA STRATEGYStep #1: Plot on your chart the 20 and 50 EMA
The first step is to properly set up our charts with the right moving averages. We can identify the EMA crossover at the later stage. The exponential moving average strategy uses the 20 and 50 periods EMA.
Most standard trading platforms come with default moving average indicators. It should not be a problem to locate the EMA either on your MT4 platform or Tradingview.
Step #2: Wait for the EMA crossover and for the price to trade below the 20 and 50 EMA.
The second rule of this moving average strategy is the need for the price to trade below both 20 and 50 EMA. Secondly, we need to wait for the EMA crossover, which will add weight to the bearish case.
We refer to the EMA crossover for a sell trade when the 20-EMA crosses below the 50-EMA.
By looking at the EMA crossover, we create an automatic buy and sell signals.
Since the market is prone to false breakouts, we need more evidence than a simple EMA crossover. At this stage, we don’t know if the bearish sentiment is strong enough to push the price further after we sell to make a profit.
To avoid the false breakout, we added a new confluence to support our view. This brings us to the next step of the strategy.
Step #3: Because the market goes down much faster, we sell on the 1st retest of the zone between 20 and 50. After the EMA crossover happened.
On a BUY trade wait for the zone between 20 and 50 EMA to be tested at least twice, then look for selling opportunities.
The conviction behind this moving average strategy relies on multiple factors. After the EMA crossover happened, we need to exercise more patience. We will wait for two successive and successful retests of the zone between the 20 and 50 EMA.
The two successful retests of the zone between 20 and 50 EMA give the market enough time to develop a trend.
Never forget that no price is too high to buy in trading. And no price is too low to sell.
Note* When we refer to the “zone between 20 and 50EMA,” we actually don’t mean that the price needs to trade in the space between the two moving averages.
We just wanted to cover the whole price spectrum between the two EMAs. This is because the price will only briefly touch the shorter moving average (20-EMA). But this is still a successful retest.
Now, we still need to define where exactly we are going to sell. This brings us to the next step of the strategy.
Step #4: Sell at the market when we retest the zone between 20 and 50 EMA for the third time.
If the price successfully retests the zone between 20 and 50 EMA for the third time, we go ahead and sell at the market price. We now have enough evidence that the bearish momentum is strong to continue pushing this market lower.
Step #5: Find your own SL & TP or
Place the protective Stop Loss 20 pips above the 50 EMA
After the EMA crossover happened, and after we had two successive retests, we know the trend is down. As long as we trade below both exponential moving averages the trend remains intact.
In this regard, we place our protective stop loss 20 pips above the 50 EMA. We added a buffer of 20 pips because we understand we’re not living in a perfect world. The market is prone to do false breakouts.
Step #6: Take Profit once we break and close above the 50-EMA
In this particular case, we don't use the same exit technique as our entry technique, which was based on the EMA crossover.
If we waited for the EMA crossover to happen on the other side, we would have given back some of the potential profits. We need to consider the fact that the exponential moving averages are a lagging indicator.
The exponential moving average formula used to plot our EMAs allow us to still take profits right at the time the market is about to reverse.
Note** The above was an example of a SELL trade. Use the same rules – but in reverse – for a BUY trade. However, because the market goes down much faster, we sell on the 1st retest of the zone between 20 and 50. After the EMA crossover happened.
Summary
The exponential moving average strategy is a classic example of how to construct a simple EMA crossover system. With this exponential moving average system, we’re not trying to predict the market. We're trying to react to the current market condition, which is a much better way to trade.
The advantage of our trading strategy stands in the exponential moving average formula. It plots a much smoother EMA that gives better entries and exits.
GBPJPY 15M SCALPING US SESSION INSIDE CANDLE BREAKOUT STRATEGYINSIDE CANDLE STRATEGY
What is an Inside Candle
1. Previous candle engulfs next candle.
2. 2nd candle high is lower that 1st engulfing candle.
3. 2nd candle low is higher than 1st engulfing candle.
INSIDE CANDLE METHOD
1. Incoming Trend
2. Inside Candle – Opposite Color
3. Enter Break of Engulfing Larger Candle
Inside Candle method is a great short term consolidation indicator.
If your trade plan contains breakouts and consolidation then this method is for you.
This is a great way to find smaller consolidations quicker which will give you more trades on whatever time frame you want to look.
On a daily chart it may take weeks for a consolidation pattern to form.
An Inside candle represents a pause, consolidation or compression in the market after a big move.
Often you will also see reduced volume on the inside candle.
Inside Candle method is a pause or a reversal of the trend . So it is more effective if there is an incoming trend.
Enter a break of the larger engulfing candle in the direction of the break.
Enter with a Stop Order a few pips above or below breakout level.
Which trades you take is a matter of preference.
Some like reversal trades or trend following trades.
Scalping inside candle pattern doesn't matter what direction you may go.
Trend following you will want to see this in context of a larger trend.
Take all the trade setups and just shut down the ones that don't preform.
Trade Management: Enter 2 trades
Stop Loss is 1.5 x ATR for both trades
First Take Profit is 1 x ATR for 1st trade
2nd trade there is no take profit.
When 1st TP is hit move 2nd trades SL to breakeven.
Let profit run on 2nd trade by following/trailing SL.
If a candle closes back inside the larger engulfing candle close down trade.
Watch for a setup for the next breakout.
AUDCAD 1D ASCENDING TRIANGLE BREAKOUT LONG TRADEAscending Triangles are repeatable trading chart patterns.
Ascending chart patterns will have a directional bias depending on the previous incoming trend.
Each chart pattern will have defining trendlines of the support/resistance levels creating the pattern.
What ever time frame you are trading this chart pattern, wait for a candle close outside of the trendline in the direction of the breakout candle. (Our time frame preference is the Daily chart).
Add volume indicator - Volume is the amount of $ that went into a particular candle or in Forex the # of trades that took place.
Add ATR indicator - Volatility is the amount of price movement that occurred. Use the ATR to measure the price movement.
When you see descending Volume bars and descending ATR line (which indicates volatility) this shows
a dis-interest in traders to invest in this pair creating consolidation which creates the chart pattern.
Trade Management after there is a breakout candle close.
1 - Position size (compare volume bar to volume ma line).
a - Breakout candle must be 100% of average volume for a full position size.
b - If 75% of average volume then ½ position size. (To find 75% of Volume
look at the charts volume settings – divide smaller # into larger # = 75%+)
2 - Enter two trades.
3 - SL for both trades will be 1.5 x ATR.
4 - 1st trade TP will be 1 x ATR.
5 - No TP on 2nd trade – letting profit run and adjusting SL to follow price.
6 - When 1st TP hit – move 2nd trade SL to breakeven.
7 - Adjust the 2nd trade SL to follow price.
*8 – After Breakout candle – if price closes back into chart pattern close trade
*9 - When breakout candle is more than 1 ATR from breakout candle open.
a - Enter 1st trade at candle close with ½ position size.
b - Enter 2nd trade with a pending limit order that is 1 ATR of breakout candle open.
c – Price should pullback to that pending limit order for 2nd trade.
d – If Price returns back into chart pattern close trade before SL is hit.
GBPUSD 15M NEW LONDON OPENING BREAKOUT TRADING STRATEGYRule #1 Define the London Trading Range
We’re going to use the range definition that takes into consideration only the body of the candles, excluding the wicks.
Note* this trading rule can be adapted as you get more experienced at reading the price action.
Who knows, maybe you’ll be able to discover some price action tendencies around the London open that no-ones was able to see.
In the GBP/USD chart we’ve outlined the trading range:
The London open breakout strategy works because the Asia trading range tends to attract buy and sell stops above and below the trading range.
The bulk of buying and selling stops becomes an easy target for smart money.
Remember that traders need liquidity to execute their orders.
And, the smart money is always in search of liquidity to fill their large orders. That’s the reason why smart money needs to trigger those stops.
Rule #2: The One-Hour before the London Open Needs to Generate the Breakout
Our backtesting results revealed that momentum really starts to pick up 1-hour earlier than the
actual London opening session.
There are some smart ways to trade this burst of momentum.
Let’s see some technical ways to trade the pre-London open.
We don’t need to guess in which way the market will break, we let the market tip his hand and show us the way.
This is where things get interesting.
Let me explain…
During the London session, we’re going to see the most traded volume thus the foreign exchange market should really take off in one direction or another.
From our example, we can note the GBP/USD one-sided move.
We didn’t have any interruptions in the momentum activity, and that’s the KEY for this whole trading setup to work.
Let’s now outline the second technical element you want to see with the London setup.
Rule #3 Buy the London Open Breakout
Immediately after the London session opens, we want to see the price fading the pre-open move.
If the price move starts fading, we know it was a false breakout
The smart money has used the pre-open move to trigger the stops below the range and now they reverse the tie and start buying.
We want to see price pulling back into the range at the same speed as it went up.
In simple words, the bullish momentum used to produce the false breakout needs to be equal to the bearish momentum used to fade the pre-open move.
We enter our trade after the first 5-minutes have confirmed that the price is reversing.
Once this trade setup is completed, you should see a price formation that takes the V-shaped form (or inverse V-shape).
Let’s now explore what methods you can use to cash in the profits.
Rule #4 Take Profit or Ride the Trend
We can measure the size of the Asia trading range and project that, from the top or bottom of our range to get our profit target.
But, oftentimes this type of setup can lead to a trading day that can extend in the days to come.
Now, in this case, it’s wise if you employ other trading tactics so you can actually profit from this trend.
In this example, the better take profit strategy would be to use a trailing stop.
You need to be ready to explore other trading methods to manage your trades.
Protecting the downside is as important as making money.
Rule #5 Use a Time Stop Instead of a Price Stop
In order to fade the London breakout, you need to use unconventional trading methods.
In this regard, for our stop loss trading strategy we’re going to use a time stop instead of a price stop.
The first time I’ve ever heard about the time stop concept was while reading the Market Wizards book.
Billionaire Hedge Fund manager Paul Tudor Jones one of the greatest traders of our times said:
“When I trade, I don’t just use a price stop, I also use a time stop.”
If you want to get a glimpse into the mindset of the most successful traders and hedge fund managers, please read: Top Trading Quotes of All Time - Learn to Trade.
So, do you want to know how to apply the time stop to the London strategy?
It’s very simple…
If in the first hour after the London open the price didn’t COMPLETELY reverse the pre-opening breakout, we exit the trade.
It’s simple as that, no further explanation is needed.
